the revolution
People often say that there are too many things in this world to worry about, that there are too many problems with this world... I disagree. I feel that the world is an overall good place, there are just people with bad attitudes that are causing the problems. No one else seems to share this opinion with me, and that is a shame. The world should be looked at as a place to strive, not just a place to survive.
I haven't always felt this way. I used to feel that the entire world was out to get me, that no one cared, that there was something wrong with me. Finally, I figured out that I was wrong, that what I thought was not what was actually happening. I, for one, am happy that I was wrong. Sure... there are people out there that are actually out to get you. There are people that don't have the common sense or the decency to let people be, to respect them for who they are. It may be a little too optimistic to say that the majority of the people in the world are willing to give people a chance, but I feel that it is true. If you think about it, when you first meet someone... what do you think about? You wonder what they are like. You wonder what types of things they do. You wonder if they are a person that you want to associate with. But, when you first meet someone... do you judge them by their appearances? Do you let them have a chance, regardless of how they may look. Regretfully, I don't think many people do that... but I could be wrong.
Maybe it is just the community that I am in, but I don't think that is true either. The world tends to judge people by past actions and first impressions. If you don't make a constant effort to hide your past (if it was bad) or if you don't try your best to make a good first impression... then people will hold that against you forever. That is not right! It should not be that way. People should be allowed to mess up... its part of human nature. But, society doesn't care about that... they all think that they deserve a second chance if they mess up, but aren't willing to give anyone else a second chance. Again, I am only speaking from my observations and my experiences in this world... which may or may not convey the sentiments and situations in other areas of the world. I can only know what happens to me and what I see happening to other people.
I make an effort to give everyone a chance... to not judge people, but as you all know... that tends to be impossible. It makes it even more difficult when you meet someone and they participate in activities that are contrary to your beliefs or practices, something that you despise is hard to look over. In my case, drugs would fill that role. I do not like drugs, nor do I use drugs, and it seems as if I tend to judge people by whether or not they use drugs. This may or may not be a good thing, but I do not care to associate with the typical people that do drugs because of my convictions against drugs. There are thousands of different things that people don't like... and tend to judge the people that do the things they don't like without even giving them a chance. This is almost unavoidable, but it is possible to stop yourself... to give the people a chance, all you have to do is make the effort.
People are often not willing to work to make things right... to correct the "injustices" of the society and the world as a whole. People are often concerned with the betterment of themselves, not the benefit of society as a whole. That detriment is also one of the things that drives our country. "The American Dream" cannot be obtained unless you step on peoples' feet, push and shove, and worry only about yourself instead of other people. That is the way this world has become... regretfully so.
There is no way I could ever claim to have all the answers, nor would I ever try to come up with the answers. What I say may not mean anything to anyone... it may have been a waste of my time. Some people are probably saying, "Why bother then?"... there is only one answer to that, because something needs to be said. Some of the things that go unsaid could have been the best revelations for the country or the most beneficial things to a person, but the person that thought of them didn't have the courage to speak their mind. That lack of courage, or maybe fear, not only hurts the person that thought of it, but also the people that their thought would have affected (if the thought was something that would have made someone's life easier or better).
What if scientists would have decided to not share their discovery... to just hide it. If that happened, the world would be nothing like it is today. We would have nothing... and everyone would be miserable. Those scientists decided to share their idea... to help out everyone instead of just themselves and as a result, they changed the world. What if someone like Thomas Edison would not have shared the idea of electricity? What if Alexander Graham Bell would have decided to scrap his invention (the telegraph) that later became the phone? Where would we be today?
Those unselfish acts need to be done in everyday life as well. Instead of picking on someone, compliment them instead. Instead of laughing at someone when they make a mistake, help them correct that mistake so it won't happen again. If everyone does this, the world would be a better place. People would have higher self-esteem and there wouldn't be so many people wanting to kill themselves to escape the torture that society is putting them through. All of those changes can occur just by being considerate to people instead of demeaning them.
All it takes is for one person to start the revolution. It only takes one small action to get the ball rolling. You just have to have the courage to try. I have begun that revolution and I look to the rest of the people of society to help me with it. Let's try to make a difference. Let's try to change. The ball is now in your hands... the choice is up to you.
